Effect of spool side chambers on dynamic response of contactless electro-operated pneumatic directional control valve

Abstract

The synchronization of feeding paper drums in the offset printing machines are carefully design. The actuators themselves are controlled by a contactless electro-operated pneumatic directional control valve (EOPDCV). In this paper, a mathematical model for the double acting pneumatic actuator controlled by EOPDCV has been developed. Such these drums are controlled through a series of actuators to produce the appreciated speed necessary to perform the printing job accurately. Effect of the valve spool side chambers ratio of the EOPDCV on the pneumatic actuators and the EOPDCV dynamic performances was introduced. Experimental setup has been conducted to study the actuator inlet pressure for EOPDCV operating conditions. The mathematical model was validated by the results from the mathematical test rig and a good agreement has been achieved. The mathematical results showed that the valve spool side chambers volume ratio (V) has a significant effect on the dynamic response of the actuator and hence, the timing of paper feeding in the printing machine. By comparing experimental and mathematical results, it has been found that the designed dynamic performance of the pneumatic system under study is at (V = 0.6).
